I will probably give Rider and Visual Studio Mac a look to see whether they fare better on the above the points as I don't think VS Code will work for me.

That plus the recent announcements that Unity will stop shipping MD with 2018 led me to try VS Code. Clearly some memory leak issues that were never addressed.
Hated than MD crashed at least twice a day on OSX. I do like the code outline that displays in the right rail. This should list a number of results but you should see Google Cloud Tools for Visual Studio. Right click on Visual Studio project and select Add > Service reference. There are a few objects where the toString() method produces a useful result. Enter the name of the project and click OK. TIP: To make the output easy to read, set the text box (or rich text box) to use a monospace font.In PowerShell Studio, right click the text box, click Apply Property Set, and then click Apply Console Font. Navigate to Windows Classic Desktop on the left side of the screen and select Console App on the right side. On the right hand side, you should see Search Visual Studio Gallery text input. Run Visual Studio and go to File > New Project. The MD cmd+b first pass build was really nice for refactoring because it would immediately show you all issues in a search results window. On the left hand side, select Online and then Visual Studio Gallery. Probably there is a setting to turn this off but I don't see it. Clicking on a search result for a line in a file that is already opened seems to open a new instance of the file rather than moving the pointer in the currently opened one. The formatting of the results is also very odd. I actually prefer the results on the bottom as MD did it because I generally use Split editing. 
If someone knows an extension that fixes this let me know Visual Studio creates the new project and adds it to the solution. On the Configure your new project screen, type the project name CalculatorLibrary, and then select Next. Pressing enter in a statement doesn't auto indent. Choose the C Class library project template, and then select Next. The class also includes a method to conditionally prompt the user and. This lets the application determine whether to linger (becaue its the only app on the console) or exit (because it was run from a command-line in an existing console).
code formatting/beautify is terrible on VSCode. The ConsoleHelper class includes a method for determining whether an application is the sole console owner.
